Tylers Taproom

GOOD

Tylers Taproom is a restaurant Tammy decided would be a good choice for Linnea me and her to go to for our WOW distance happy hour since we were traveling to North Carolina for the Krispy Kreme race.  We all know I can’t go to a new restaurant for a happy hour and not try out their wings.  This establishment offers on their menu, “jumbo chicken wings, served with crisp celery and carrots and your choice of house-made buttermilk ranch or blue cheese.”  The flavor options are 2 beer, 4 beer, Honey Jalapeno BBQ or Teriyaki.  We were not sure what they meant by the 2 beer and 4 beer and then felt pretty silly after asking.  2 beer and 4 beer is supposed to be the heat level, meaning you will need either 2 beers or 4 beers to cool off after eating those wings.  We decided we didn’t want to get just regular buffalo type style wings and we were not feeling teriyaki, especially being down in the south so we went with the Honey Jalapeno BBQ.

These wings came out and they were covered in the sauce which you can see in the picture above.  The sizes of the wings were definitely decent.  These wings were cooked pretty darn well with a crispy outside and the meat stayed very tender on the inside.  My biggest issue was the sauce itself.  The sauce was tangy and sweet and assuming this was due to it having a BBQ component but there was no heat to the sauce even though it was supposed to be a jalapeno wing also.  The sauce was very thick and also gelatinous which was a turn off in flavor since the texture was a little odd.  The honey in the sauce was definitely the most prominent flavor and it would have been nicer if there was a little bit of a kick or spice to enhance the all-around flavor of this wing.  Overall I am not sure I would order these again I think I would try the 4 beer if I came across this restaurant again
