McGarvey's

8 Market Space, Annapolis, MD
GOOD/EXCELLENT

I have mixed feelings about going to Annapolis for dinner.  One reason is being from there you never know who you are going to run into and who you may want to run from!  This particular night I went to dinner to meet up with Kate B. and Courtney.  I was sitting and waiting and waiting and waiting… then looked at my watch and realized geez these ladies are pretty late.  Not nice for my old high school friends to stand me up for a long lost get together dinner in Annapolis.  Then I realized I didn’t have their numbers to call and figure out what the deal was on why they were 25 minutes late and I was 2 glasses of wine into the night.  I went onto Facebook to check the original plans and saw a picture of Kate B. on a beach in Hawaii where she lives… WTF!!!!  OMG, I had the wrong weekend, we are supposed to meet next Friday for dinner at McGarvey’s! So I tried to be as sly as possible and order some wings to go and let my waiter know my party was obviously not coming since half of the party was in Hawaii, he totally laughed at me and I sulked out of there with my wings to-go.  McGarvey’s has one kind of wing on their menu. They serve “Aviator Wings” which are deep fried and tossed in buffalo sauce served with a French Roquefort dressing and celery.  I went home to sulk in my bad calendar reading skills when I got a phone call from my brother who was calling to tell my parents something, which at the time were on their way to a play.  Finding me at home due to my mishap, he laughed at me, made fun of me, then felt a little bad and invited me out to dinner with the family, win!  I felt bad but I left my wings on the table.  On the way to  dinner with my brother and his family my parents decide to call to check in and find out I got the wrong date and on speaker phone with their friends in the car they also go on to making fun of me, such a loving family.

Needless to say I left the wings at the house for a late night snack after dinner.  I was sad I left them until late at night because at that time of night they were cold and had lost their crisp.  Overall the wing sauce they use is a great buffalo sauce, with good heat and flavor.  The sizes of the wings are decent and filling (check out the picture above).  I have to say though the one really nice touch with these wings is the French Roquefort dressing.  This dressing, whether you like blue cheese dressing or not, will change your mind on blue cheeses.  It is smoother and milder than any kind of blue cheese you have ever had and pairs so nicely with the celery and hot wings to help cool down your mouth after eating a dozen wings.  Bravo on choosing this dressing to pair with these wings.  I will have to get these wings again at the restaurant where they will be served fresh and hot and I am sure will be totally EXCELLENT.
