Tortilla Coast

400 1st Street SE

GOOD

Tortilla Coast is frequented by Hill goers, interns, pre-game baseball fans and your everyday D.C. wanna be politician. If you go on the weekday they have a happy hour special from 3:30pm to 7:00pm. The Happy Hour special includes their Chipotle Honey Glazed wings. They sell you a basket for $4.00. They act like the basket of wings is a deal for $4.00 when in actuality it really isn’t since the basket is a half basket of wings. A regular amount of wings is a full dozen for around $8-$10.00. So their small basket of 6 wings for $4.00 is not a great deal by any means. It is better when it is $.35, $.25 and $.15 cent wings or half off wing baskets. Oh no, Tortilla Coast, you didn’t fool me with the $4.00 price tag and the limited amount of wings in the basket.

The wings themselves when you get them are okay. They are usually piping hot and really fresh from the kitchen, which is not always true of all wing places. The Chipotle Honey glaze has a tangy, sweet and spicy flavor to them. You can taste there is some kind of heat from the spice but they it is not overbearing like many chipotle flavored wings and food products can be. The honey mixed with the chipotle gives a nice balance to the hot and sweet giving these wings a good overall flavor. Their size was more on the small side and they would be a much better wing if Tortilla Coast would invest more in the chicken wing they were purchasing to have a more meaty wing.
