116 Rhode Island Ave NW
GOOD
One thing I love about living in DC is that it is always changing and new restaurants and bars seem to be popping up all over the place. Recently a new bar opened up on Rhode Island called Boundary Stone. It is a cool rustic hangout with exposed brick and a tin ceiling. The menu is not too extensive and they change some of their everyday items with local in season vegetables. The bartenders really embrace the welcoming environment there by personally introducing themselves to you and asking what your name is and actually remembering it. I just had to get down there week one to see the new scene and also try the Honey Hot Wings they have on their menu. On the menu the Honey Hot Wings says it is served with a shaved celery salad and I was totally intrigued by this. When the wings came they looked delicious, however they were on the smaller scale in size. They may have been small in size but they definitely made up in flavor. The wings had a hot thick spicy sauce that when you first take a bite of the wings is semi sweet from the honey. These wings are not overbearing in the hot department so if you are opposed to eating hot wings because they burn your mouth too much, then you are in luck here because these are a very happy balance of sweet to begin with and spice to finish off. For all of my vegetarian friends out there they also offer a vegetarian seitan wing.
The shaved celery salad on the other hand was a total surprise to me. I have not had wings that served celery other than in sticks. The salad had a vinegary salt and pepper very light dressing on. It was very pleasant and could be eaten by itself. The celery salad was thinly sliced, maybe on a mandolin, and complimented and also dressed up the wings. I would definitely get these wings again. I only rated them GOOD because the one thing knocking them down was that they were lacking is size. If these wings were a larger meatier wing then they would definitely be getting an EXCELLENT rating.
