As Kaitlyn D and Andy M get ready for their nuptials this coming winter a lot of planning has to be done. On this particular day Kaitlyn, KateLW , Donna R and myself went out to go bridesmaid dress shopping. We met out in the White Flint area and as I told my office mate Kelly L about it she was keen on letting me know that there was a Buffalo Wild Wings down the street from where we would be. I passed the idea along to the three lovely ladies to see if they would be down for wings after dress shopping since what else goes hand in hand: trying on dresses and eating massive amounts of wings! No need to tell you but the ladies were in for the wings. Kaitlyn and Donna set out to assist me in trying more of the flavors I had missed the first time I went to a Buffalo Wild Wings, KateLW was there for support but not in the true wing eating mood at that time. The flavors we tried were:
1. Salt & Vinegar- This wing was just as the title says, a chicken wing covered in a salt and vinegar dry rub. This was a new taste in wings I have never had before and I would say that I would get them again. They are very unique and pair well with a spicy wing to help cool down your mouth. GOOD
2. Chipotle BBQ- When this wing came out it was very surprising because it is a dry rub instead of a Chipotle BBQ sauce. Every other BBQ style wing I have had has been a sticky gooey sauce but this was totally different and had a good smoky flavor to it. I have to admit the chipotle was not too defined in the spice rub but overall the wing was still flavorful. GOOD
3. Blazin- this wing is rated the highest on the heat level scale that Buffalo Wild Wings has. Donna, Kait and I decided we HAD to try it to see if it really was hot. These wings were true to their name and spicy! The sauce is thick and caked on all the wings so there is no way for eating the wings and not having your mouth burn. The ranch and celery on the side was a perfect example of why they are served with hot wings, to help cool down the mouth. These wings had a long after burn that pretty much can make you sweat. The flavor of the sauce was decent for a sauce that also makes your mouth go numb from the spice level. GOOD (but I would not want to eat a full basket)
4. Caribbean Jerk- These wings were tasty and I could definitely eat the entire basket of 6 wings to myself however I did not taste the true Jamaican Jerk sauce type flavor. I feel like there is no place in DC that may have this flavor, though I have to say I have not been to a Jamaican restaurant recently to have wings, so that may be a new stop for the blog. OK/GOOD
5. Desert Heat- I guess you can probably tell from the name of the wing that Desert Heat is a dry rub wing. If for some reason you do not get the connection of a desert and things being dry then you are an idiot. These wings were one of the saddest wings I have ever eaten. They were semi dusted with the desert heat rub and mainly left to be naked with no flavor at all. The name of the wing was taken to the extreme because the ones I tried from this basket of wings were overcooked and dried out. NEVER AGAIN
6. Mild- This wing was ordered as a follow up from all the spicy wings we had already eaten. We decided that we wanted to eat more wings but needed something with not so much heat in the spice since we were still burning from previous wings we had eaten. When these wings arrived we were all shocked at how they looked. The wings came out covered in a goopy orange/yellow sauce. The flavor is of an overly salted butter that has been thickened and turned into a goo and poured over the wings. These were quite disgusting; Donna wouldn’t even finish the one she bit. NEVER AGAIN
7. Sweet BBQ- These wings are not my go to type of wing because I really am not too fond of sweet tasting wings. This BBQ sauce though is pretty decent. It is sweet and tangy and covers the wing without being overly saucy. GOOD
8. Teriyaki- Once we had ordered a number of hot spicy wings we decided we wanted to try a more mild flavor. We went for the teriyaki flavor but when we went to order them the waiter advised against them. He said the wings were not good at all and tasted really salty. I am glad he advised against the salty wings. I may not have tried these wings but with the waiters advice I will give these a rating. NEVER AGAIN (more like never)
9. Mango Habanero- I had these the last time I was at Buffalo Wild Wings and I really liked them. They are probably my favorite wings from that establishment. Donna and Kait both agree that the mango habanera is an amazing mix with the sweet and spicy. As you bite the wings you can definitely taste the sweet flavor of the mango and then the spicy hot flavor from the habanero starts to sneak up on you in the most pleasant way. EXCELLENT
We realized after eating our ungodly amount of wings that it was very smart to try the dresses on before going to Buffalo Wild Wings. I just now hope the dress fits when they arrive! Overall I typically enjoy going to Buffalo Wild Wings and eating the wings they offer on their menu. My one main issue I have with their wings is that they are pretty small in size. I also hate going on a Tuesday for the buffalo wing special and having the waiter try and get you to purchase boneless. For one boneless taste different and two they are not on sale on Tuesdays! Also, I think it is pretty cheap of Buffalo Wild Wings to charge for individual celery and dressings when there is a wing special. What is the big deal, get with every other restaurant in the country and have it come with the wings.
