Town Tavern

2323 18th St NW Adams Morgan

NEVER AGAIN/FAIR

So Town Tavern is a place that I happen to frequent often enough, especially during kickball season. Up until recently I had never tried their wings. It did make me skeptical when last season KateLW ordered a basket and tried to give all but the first one she ate away… then again KateLW and I do not always seem to have the same taste when it comes to wings. Since I got to Town Tavern, had no dinner and there was a wing special going on I decided I better get some wings and see what these wings were like for myself. There are a number of flavors offered at Town Tavern which are: Plain Salt & Pepper, Jamaican Jerk, BBQ, Mild, Medium or Hot Buffalo. I decided to get a basket and split it between Medium and Jamaican.

1. Medium- So for one think I felt like this place takes forever to get you your food. I ordered the wings and maybe an hour later I went up to bar to ask for them and they brought them around maybe 5 minutes later. These medium wings were nasty. The meat on the wings is okay but the skin is so soggy it almost sags off the wing itself. The spice of the sauce is decent to the extent that you wouldn’t want to eat these with chapped lips but if it was my decision I would never recommend anyone order these ever. NEVER AGAIN

2. Jamaican-I was extremely excited to see that a Jamaican flavor was on the menu since I am always on the lookout for a good Jamaican flavored wing. Having gone to Jamaica and fallen in love with their unique, flavorful spices I have always wanted to find a wing place that can replicate that flavor but have yet to find one. When these wings FINNALLY came out the skin was also really soggy and gross. It made the wings themselves very unappetizing. If you taste the sauce by itself it does have a decent flavor and it would be enjoyable to cook regular Jamaican food but overall the wings were still soggy and funky. FAIR

At least I know now that when I make my weekly trips to Town Tavern to NOT order wings and to make sure I sit at the bar and hound the bartenders for my slow as shit food from the kitchen. Chelsea L. even ordered a sandwich and after Baily’s sandwich and my wings came out hers still had not. When she went to check on the order she was infirmed they were out of that sandwich… well thanks douche for letting me know now one and half hours later! The salad looked decent but when you are wanting and waiting for something else a salad just doesn’t seem to cut it.

Sue had the same issues with TT last week. She actually never got her grilled cheese (after over an hour) and ended up going to Amsterdam Falafel. TT is terrible with their food service. But no one goes there for their food anyways.
