Rocklands Barbeque and Grilling Company

3471 Washington Blvd Arlington, VA

GOOD

If there is one thing I like it is wings. If there is one other thing I like it is a smoker! There is something about a smoker that gives meat, whether it is chicken, pork or beef a succulent juicy tenderness. So this wing eating night was paired up with some tasty wine, great company and the classic movie Fargo. Who doesn’t want to eat something warm and steaming and sip their delicious red wine to stay warm when watching a movie cast in the vast cold flatlands of Fargo? I went to have a movie/wing night with Bob and Jason and we decided on carry out from Rockland’s. We ordered ahead and I ran inside to pick up the order. They only offer one kind of chicken wing which is their “Hot ‘n’ Spicy Grilled Wings” (10 for $5.99). Jason drove up to the restaurant and I ran inside to get the order we had placed for the three of us. To be honest if you could take heaven and put that smell into a bottle I think I would imagine it to smell like the inside of this place. As I walked in you could see the large smokers and cookers in the back full of slabs of pork, beef and chicken… I was in high heaven! I was so glad to get the order of wings and head back to the apartment and dig in before I started to drool in front of the patrons eating there that night. As we got back to the apartment it was a race to get the wings out of the bag and in our stomachs. I have to say they all had a great grilled char on the outside and were moist and tender. I wish the skin was crisp and not so soggy but that can be hard to get on a grilled wing. These wings had a distinct smoky taste to them but I didn’t taste any hot and spiciness to the flavor like it advertised. They had a ton of chicken and grilled flavor just not spicy. Rockland’s has their own “dipping” sauce they put with the wings which tasted like a tangy type of ranch. It was good and went well with the wings but these wings didn’t need any sauce to accompany them. Jason even said, “Mmmm I like ‘em, these are tender.” I am not so sure Bob said too much about them but he did like them and I don’t think he had any leftover. I would definitely go back to this place to try their other food since they have a great menu of smoked and BBQ foods. I would also have these wings again since they were tasty and tender but since they had soggy skin and were not spicy like advertised they only get a GOOD rating.
