P.J. Whelihan's- NJ

700 Haddon Ave. Haddon Township, NJ

Sometimes I really like posting later in the day because I feel like I am inspiring all of you to go out there and order some wings for dinner. It is perfect, the day is coming to an end… you are just starting to get all cranky pants on your coworkers because you really need your 5 o’clock drink and your tummy is starting to growl. Why not go get a beer and some nice spicy wings?! This is just what me and my friends did the other weekend except we decided to road trip to Andy M’s all time favorite place in NEW JERSEY. Yes, five of us got in the car after work and drove to get what says are his favorite wings. So needless to say the rest of us were very excited to try these wings. When we got to P.J. Whlihan’s we were stoked to get in and get a seat and be able to order every wing they offered. We decided to get 70 wings, onion rings and mozzarella sticks. We were going for the healthy meal. When the waitress came to take our order we think she was overly disgusted with our order since it was 4 girls and Andy who all wanted to eat 70 wings, but in our defense we HAD to try all 7 flavors they offered. These are the kinds and my personal ratings for each:

1. Hot-n-Honey- The menu claims this is their signature sauce that they use on this wing. I have to say I have never had a “honey” wing where as you bite into the wing you really taste the sweet of the honey all over which even lingers a bit after you start eating the chicken. Why they are called “hot”-n-honey I do not understand because I did not get any heat flavor from the wings at all. These are one of Andy M’s favorites but I am also not a fan of sweet wings to begin with but they were alright I just needed there to be more spice to be called hot. GOOD

2. Chipotle Lime BBQ- their menu claims this is a sweet and zesty wing and I have to agree. It definitely was sweet with the BBQ sauce and you could taste the zest and tang with the lime that they use in their sauce without it being citrusy. However… chipotle? Where does that chime in because there was no chipotle in this sauce? I tasted no smoky hot chipotle pepper anywhere in this wing flavor. Very sad because it was on the verge of being epic. FAIR/GOOD

3. Drunken BBQ- The drunken BBQ wing is supposed to be infused with Guinness. That just sounds like my love child right there because I love wings and love Guinness. These were probably one of my favorites that was served. I usually hate BBQ wings but these just had a great BBQ flavor that wasn’t overly sweet, hence the great Guinness flavor in there. I would definitely go back and get these again even though they are breaded and I do not prefer a breaded wing. EXCELLENT

4. Mild- This wing was totally funky to an extent. The menu claims it has a “classic flavor”. I don’t know what classic flavor they are talking about but this was a flavor or some spice mixture and then a bath of butter. It was so buttery that I think Donna didn’t try one and KateLW had half of one. People are not usually turned off by wings but these were the ones we left behind… these were our wounded soldiers for the night. NEVER AGAIN

5. Shanghai-These are supposed to be “hot, sweet and tangy”. They were definitely sweet and tangy… hot, well they were served hot so I am not sure what they were advertising there in the menu because they were not hot as in spicy. These wings were really sticky in a sweet tangy sauce and then covered in sesame seeds to give it another level of flavor. I really liked these wings because I also find it hard to get a wing that has any sesame, soy, Asian flavors that are good. GOOD

6. Hot- These wings should not be called hot but instead should be called mild. When I order a mild wing I still expect there to be some heat. So when I order a HOT wing I really want there to be a kick to this little chicken’s wing. If not I am very upset. These wings were very disappointing that Donna even decided it would be a good idea to take the wings and roll them in the inferno sauce to actually make them better. Good Call. If you want a semi-spicy wing that you could eat forever and ever and never make your mouth burn I guess these would be okay. FAIR

7. Inferno- These wings were really good. They actually were spicy but also had good flavor. I don’t want a hot wing to be hot for hots sake. These wings we all had to fight for. Poor Kait D had to deal with me trying to reach over her every time I wanted to get a new Inferno wing or dip a mild or hot wing into the inferno sauce. If it was appropriate we probably would have licked the sheet of paper and basket the wings came in. EXCELLENT

Overall the wings were tasty. I have to say they would have gotten a better rating if they were not breaded. I find that breaded wings take away from the chicken itself and the flavors they are trying to incorporate onto the wing. I don’t want Andy M to be upset with my reviews but like I said I am totally honest with what I say and how I feel about these wings. This is just my opinion and I would definitely go back for more!

I'm also not a fan of breaded wings!
