Mac’s Tavern

226 Market Street (Philadelphia, PA)

FAIR

Traveling to Philadelphia is always a great time. I went to school right outside the city and during my four years there (yeah can you believe it I graduated ON TIME) we would take the train into the city for all sorts of adventures. One area we used to frequent was Old City. Recently I was in the Philly area for Anne and Peter’s wedding, CONGRATS AGAIN, and on our way out of town Troy and I decided we HAD to stop by the new Mac’s Tavern to see what it was all about. This bar is owned by Rob McElhenney and Kaitlin Olson the husband and wife team who play Mac and Sweat Dee on It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia. I mean seriously I love this show and Andy M. has a plaque on the wall there, so we had to make a pit stop in to see what it is all about and while there get some wings. The bar is a normal sports bar with some great food options on their menu. The wing options are: Buffalo Mild To Wtf, Cajun Spice, Garlic Chili which is supposed to be Sweet & Garlicky. Troy and I decided to get the Cajun Spice because I am on the lookout for a good Cajun wing and have yet to find one. We didn’t want to get too many wings because when you are in Philadelphia you have to save room for some Philly cheese steaks. When the wings came out they were steaming and piping hot, perfect. When we dug into them they were one of those wings that looked better than they tasted. They had some spice on them but overall were more covered in oil/grease/butter whatever they cooked them in than the seasoning. Also, the seasoning itself was not strong enough and shouldn’t have been called a Cajun spice. They tasted like they were barely rubbed with a seasoning. Don’t get me wrong we made sure we ate all of the wings before we left but I would not order their Cajun wings again.
