Buffalo Wild Wings

2450 Crystal Drive Arlington, VA Crystal City

So everyone talks about Buffalo Wild Wings like they are God’s little taste of heaven here on earth. Dave K and I decided it would a good idea to put them to the test though he has had them before and it is always a pleasure and a challenge to order a ton of wings and get through ALL of them. Buffalo Wild Wings, as some call it BW3, where is the 3 from? I see 2 “W’s” in the name, maybe someone can enlighten me. Anywho, Buffalo Wild Wings carries 14 different flavors of wings and Dave K and I decided to order 6 of those flavors. We technically ordered 7 of them but the waitress only heard 6 of the flavors. Oh well we were set with the 6 we ordered. The 6 flavors we tried out are reviewed here:

1. Spicy Garlic (a tasty, spicy, garlicky good sauce) - I love how the description of the wing is “good sauce.” They couldn’t have been more wrong when writing that description. I like to try garlic flavored wings since I should be made partly from garlic with the last name I bare. It was so freakin salty the garlic taste and the garlic was overbearing you wouldn’t know you were eating a chicken wing. The sauce was very thick and poured over the wings like a pasty, gooey, never wanting to put in my mouth spunky sauce. However I did try and it and to my conclusion I won’t try these wings ever again. NEVER AGAIN

2. Honey BBQ ( a sweet sassy sauce: savor the flavor)- These wings were pretty good. They definitely were better than the Spicy Garlic but just about any wing in the world would be better than the Spicy Garlic wing. I would not usually order two BBQ wings in one sitting but this would allow me to try two kinds and compare them. I was not the biggest fan of these wings because they were sweet and tangy but Dave K thinks these are the shit. They definitely have smoky BBQ flavor but are just too sweet for my liking. GOOD

3. Asian Zing (sweet meets heat: a chili pepper, soy & ginger sauce) - I am definitely not a fan of any “Asian” flavored wings. Every restaurant usually messes these wings up and they just taste like salty soy sauce. The Asian Zing wings at BW3 are ones that Dave K said we had to order because they would change my perception on Asian wings. The only other perception I have on Asian wings are Hilary M doing the chicken dance! :o) I will admit these wings are pretty tasty for an Asian wing. They are sweet but I didn’t get the “zing” from spice. There is little pepper flakes incorporated into the sauce which give good flavor but not much heat. I would try them again but not my top choice. GOOD

4. Mango Habanero (feel the burn, savor the sweet: two sensations, one sauce)- These wings I just had to try because of their name. I wanted to try something on the spicier scale and with the mango in there they would have that slightly sweet taste. These wings are by far my favorite wings I have tried at Buffalo Wild Wings. There is definitely a sweet taste to the wing that you first get from the sticky sauce followed by a good burn from the hot habanero pepper flavor. The heat from the pepper is not so hot that you can’t eat an entire order but it might be wise to have the Parmesan Garlic wings to cool your mouth if you have a weak mouth. These wings would definitely make Andy S sweat! EXCELLENT

5. Parmesan Garlic (roasted garlic & parmesan sauce with Italian herbs) - When these wings came out I wish they were just slightly more crispy. The amount of garlic parmesan sauce that was on the wings just made them a little too soggy. The flavor of the wing however is true to the name of the wing. They are garlicky and parmesany. Some garlic parmesan wings are overbearing in a salty flavor from the parmesan and these were not. I would say they are a good wing to have a chaser to some wings that are high in heat. GOOD

6. Hot BBQ (rich BBQ sauce with a touch of heat) - These wings are pretty good for a BBQ wing. I am not one to go to a wing place and seek out the BBQ flavor wings, I prefer the Buffalo style and random flavors over BBQ… especially if it a sweet BBQ sauce. I think I liked this one because it had a kick to the sauce. I think the name did it justice by saying it had a “touch” of heat. If you don’t like hot wings these would not be overbearing but still flavorful and slightly spicy. I like these BBQ wings much better than the Honey BBQ wings and would get these again. I think they are the stronger of the two BBQ’s. GOOD/EXCELLENT

I always know when I go back to write reviews that the wings must have been good when I open my Wing Notebook and the page I took notes in is covered in a gooey mess from the wing sauce. Wings that are good I usually don’t want to take the time to wipe my fingers before I take notes so the sauce gets all over the book… that reminds me I need a new spiral notebook, this one is too sticky right now to carry around and I will need to go back to Buffalo Wild Wings to try the other flavors.

The place used to be called "buffalo wild wings & weck" hence BW3. And they're service at the Crystal City location always seems to be suspect to me.

"pasty, gooey... spunky sauce?" HA! Isn't that kind of sauce usually a winner?
